Join Us for a Walk
Time to venture outside to enjoy the fresh air and all that Canada’s winter has to offer us.
Dress warmly for these energising walks. After, be ready to enjoy a warming hot drink, pastry and some fun conversation.
Note:
Walks will take place on either Tuesday or Wednesday, but always beginning at 10:00 am.
In case of extreme inclement weather, call me to ensure walk is still happening. Otherwise, we will meet at the assigned place.
Tuesday, 17th January Roger’s Reservoir
This walk has trails which are part of the Nokiidaa Trail system linking the Towns of Aurora, Newmarket and East Gwilimbury.
Nokiidaa is an Ojibwa term meaning ‘walking together’ which seems perfect for our group.
Interestingly, Rogers Reservoir is also home to the “ghost canal” system which was built to accommodate shipping between Newmarket and Lake Simcoe in
1911 and then never used. We must look out for remnants of the abandoned canal, a lock and swing bridge that are located in the park.
Parking is in the parking lot on Green Lane, east of Main Street North, opposite the East Gwillimbury Go terminal.
Tuesday, 21st February Fairy Lake
We have walked the paths north of Fairy Lake several times now but the conversation is always different!
After, we can stroll down Main Street for a little refreshment.
Dress warmly and join us at the main entrance of Fairy Lake,
500 Water Street, just east of the south end of Main Street in Newmarket.
Wednesday, 28th March Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve
This walk has beautiful rolling hills and forested ridges and is a refuge for wildlife. To access the reserve, travel north on Bathurst Street from Green Lane, The entrance is the third driveway on the left side at
18462 Bathurst Street and is marked with a green ‘Ontario Nature’ sign. Continue down the drive past the white house and park at the very end of the lane way.
After all our walks, we will, of course, visit a nearby coffee shop. Come alone or bring a friend.
